NEW FOUND GLORY: Sticks And Stones
new found glory has been one of my favorite bands since i was in high school and ordered the it’s all about the girls ep as recommended by my friend max chiao. i’ve been into all of their albums since then. it’d be really tough to pick a favorite. each one reminds me of certain parts of my life and have so many great memories attached to songs from all their albums. whichever album i’m currently playing is my favorite.
so right now, sticks and stones is my favorite. i bought this cd at the best buy on palm beach lakes boulevard in west palm beach while visiting my parents during the fall of 2002. ‘my friends over you’ is still a monster almost 7 years later. at their 3 recent florida shows, nfg ended each set with the song and it didn’t lose an ounce of the power it had the first time i heard it. the video is a ton of fun, too. why hasn’t some band made another video like that recently?
looking over the tracklisting, it’s hard to pick a favorite track. ‘forget my name’ is in the running mainly because of the matt skiba & dan andriano cameos in the bridge. ‘singled out’ loses a couple points with the unnecessary electro-pop intro regardless of how good the song that after it is. ‘sonny’ is a beautiful song that mixes up the album in a great way.
‘it’s been a summer’ has a great intro riff and ‘never give up’ never lets up. both great tunes. and the hidden track? so good. nfg always does amazing jobs with those.
i could do without the little kids making out on the insert but the distillers and glassjaw shirts that jordan and chad wear in their photos help make up for that.
