“Bayside” @ The Fillmore at Irving Plaza in NYC

Bobby has taken some of my favorite photos of this band. Their NYC shows are great and always get better. From Knitting Factory years ago to the Irving Plaza show earlier this month, the NYC crowds are always amazing.

If you wanna feel defeated as a musician, just watch an Iron Maiden show and know your band will never reach that level. The crowds are epic…I was glad to be a part of one in Montreal a few years ago.
i watched rock in rio for the 100th+ time the other night. truly epic.

Metallica and The Swellers?

jonathandiener:

Today we received our test pressings from Paper & Plastick for our new 7” with the songs “Welcome Back Riders” and “Montreal Screwjob”.

When you get a test pressing, you need to listen to all of the songs to approve it, then they go on to make the rest of your vinyl.

Side A was awesome, the song sounded great. Then we flipped it, put the needle on, then heard applause… we didn’t have that on our song. Then we hear “I am iron man” …what the fuck?

We then realized, it was Metallica covering the song “Iron Man” by Black Sabbath on both copies of the 7” instead of our song “Montreal Screwjob”. We even looked at the etching on the vinyl, one side said the swellers, other had a release listing with MET00 then the number of the release.

Which means… we think they were making some kind of 7” with this unreleased cover and it was swapped with our song. Which means Metallica’s test pressing might have a Swellers song on it…

I did a little research and found the recording from the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame induction, you can find the video of them covering it on YouTube.

These test pressings will probably be worth a shit load of money. We have 2 and we are definitely keeping them. We’re technically doing a split with Metallica. Who knows if they’re even doing a vinyl, or it was just a filler and was misplaced, or if they have our song on their test pressing…

It’s up to the imagination. So until I get a call from Lars Ulrich asking if they can have our new album and take us on tour… then I’ll just keep dreaming.

The Swellers split with Metallica. The best mistake to ever happen.
